Seven Systems

The writing of Graydon Jones

I’ve always loved science fiction, but the stories that stayed with me — The Martian, The Expanse, Project Hail Mary — all had something in common: they made space feel real. Dangerous. Beautiful. Unforgiving.

After years working on a softer SF project, I realised I wanted to push myself — to write something harder. Something where the physics mattered. Where the characters can’t rely on warp drives, teleporters, or mystical powers. Where survival depends on ingenuity, teamwork, and sheer stubbornness.

That shift led me into a new hard‑SF series set in a recovering Solar System, where the Global Commonwealth is fighting to rebuild Earth and push outward into space. At the centre of this world is the Office of Planetary Defence — the agency responsible for protecting Commonwealth assets, managing deep‑space operations, and responding when things go wrong far from home.

If you enjoy realistic, near‑future, character‑driven science fiction with real stakes, I’d love to have you along for the journey.
